Extend Probation Letter

Can an employer extend probation period for an employee who is about to complete their probation period? An employer can extend probation, however, they can only do so if the employee has been advised in writing, in advance of their engagement, that their employment is subject to the satisfactory completion of a probationary period and that the probationary period may be extended before the expiry of the initial period.
